Anugerah Tujuh Bintang
Malaysia’s Independent Creative Excellence Awards

Pursuing our dream of putting Malaysia on the world’s creative map, 7 Bintang Awards is a celebration of Malaysia’s Independent Creative Excellence, to acknowledge young Malaysian Creative Individuals and to assist them in their strive for international recognition. It is the first ever award that was designed to be independent, at liberty to be adopted by associations, companies or organizations with the objective of providing recognition towards deserving creative works and ideas.

7 Bintang Awards is a unique independent creative awards agency, with the long-term objective of to collect and centralize all creative excellence recognition under one body or center for referral of who’s who in the creative industry. Recipients of the 7 Bintang are selected based on a stringent process of evaluation by a panel of distinguished jurors.

With the hope of boosting the international perception of the Malaysia’s excellence in creativity, 7 Bintang aims to categorise and document today’s achievements for future generations.

7 Bintang Creative Youth Awards
The 7 Bintang Creative Youth Contest/Competition was created with the following purposes:
To offer everyone - Malaysians Youth - the opportunity to express their creativity in a festival which talks about creativity and enjoy a prestigious showcase, such as 7 Bintang Creative Award.
The aim of the awards is to recognize and celebrate the successes achieved by creative & innovative youth or young individuals working with creativity and in doing so help to build the prosperity of these creative entrepreneurs and it is a showcase of our established and emerging talents.

Purpose of Competition
The creative sector plays an ever-increasing role in the economy. In the current time, the number of new and developing creative businesses is expanding rapidly. Whether it is jewelry design or photography, designer-makers, pottery or fine art, a growing number of the creative entrepreneurs are building business opportunities through their creativity.
Submitted projects shall be related to creativity and innovative work according to the following sub-sectors, definitions and guidelines:

7 Creative Sub-Sectors & Definitions
  • Digital Media (including web design, videogame design, etc)
    Demonstrating innovative use of digital media and technology in a creative context, this is both accessible and functional and has originated in Malaysia.
  • Music & Performing Arts (including Theatre, Live Art & Dance)
    Dance/theatre companies, bands, artistes, DJs, musicians and individual performers who have made a significant impact upon the music and performing arts scene locally, national; and/or internationally based in Malaysia.
  • Product Design (including character design, craft, jewelry & toys)
    Exceptional, exemplary and original work in the design of accessories, consumer goods, technology or home and office furnishings, conceived and/or manufactured in Malaysia.
  • Photography / Film & TV
    A commercial photographic project by a business based in Malaysia. Film, broadcast & non-broadcast programmed of the highest quality that are non-genre specific and created by a company based in Malaysia.
  • Writing & Publishing
    An original creative work of research compilations, experimental, fiction, drama for stage, film, television or publication or dissemination of creative writing through publication - books, magazines, and/or web by a writer or publisher in Malaysia.
  • Graphics & Advertising
    A graphic work project or national advertising campaign originated in Malaysia that has met the clients’ brief and successfully delivered its message.
  • Visual Arts
    Galleries, collectives, companies or individual artists who have made a significant impact upon the Visual Arts scene locally, nationally and/or internationally and based in Malaysia.

Originality
All presented works shall be new and novel, and especially developed for this competition.
Non-compliance with these terms will result in the immediate exclusion from the competition, or should the non-compliance be established at a later stage in the revocation of conferred awards - by unappealable decision of the jury - as well as in the repayment of received prizes.

Overall Judging Criteria
To succeed in the flourishing creative sector, businesses need confidence, optimism, persistence, passion and risk-taking. In this category the judges will be looking to recognize and celebrate the achievement of a creative business, which has demonstrated:

  • Innovation and business creativity
  • Good business practice
  • Determination to succeed
  • Commercial success

Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to All Malaysian Youth aged: 15 – 35 years old, residing and based in Malaysia, individuals or collectives and businesses working within the cultural and creative sector and employing less than 25 people. They may be art, design, or communication students, academies, professionals, or artists. 

General
All business and financial information will be treated in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to anyone other than the panel of judges and its advisors. Please read the category questions carefully and provide enough relevant information to enable the assessors to form a clear picture of your achievements.

Award Categories
If you just have launched a new product? Or have been active in the creative community? Or have contributed to improving the creative environment? Or, you have just had a good year in any of the above 7 creative sub-sectors categories? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes” then enter up to three of the following award categories:

1 Innovative Youth Award / Anugerah Belia Inovatif
Purpose of Competition
To identify and reward the individuals, collectives or companies which has launched the most innovative new product/service in Malaysia in the calendar year of 2008/2009.

Additional Judging Criteria
The judges will consider all aspects of an innovative new product/service launch, including research and development, launch activity and the actual or likely commercial success of the product/service. Key success factors will include; degree of innovation, time taken to market, design process/best practice, market edge, USP, potential for growth/competition and profitability. Other factors might include job creation/safeguarding, environmental sustainability, and use of teamwork, project management capability, customer delight/novelty factor and use of market research. Development to prototype stage only is expressly excluded from this award.

 

2 Creative Youth Award / Anugerah Belia Kreatif
Purpose of Competition
This award is open to individuals, collectives or companies in Malaysia that normally employ no more than 25 full time staff and which have a proven record of success.

Additional Judging Criteria
The judges will pay particular attention to:
    * What has made the difference between success and failure for the company?
    * What differentiates the company’s products/services from their competitors?
    * Managerial and financial performance.
    * Potential for growth.
    * Evidence of commitment and imagination in the product or service.

 

3 Creative Newcomer Award / Anugerah Rakanbaru Kreatif
Purpose of Competition
This award is open to individuals, collectives or companies in Malaysia that have been in operation for a maximum of two years as at January 1, 2010. This award is also to recognize the individuals; companies and collective group that have used web technology, including ICT, e-commerce and e-business, to enhance their business.

Additional Judging Criteria
The judges will pay particular attention and will be seeking examples of best practice and will look for:

    * The company’s business plan and indications of how it has been pursued so far.
    * What differentiates the company’s products/services from their competitors?
    * Managerial and financial performance, with evidence.
    * The background of the directors.
    * Notable achievements to date.
    * Potential for growth.
    * Evidence of commitment and imagination in the product or service.
    * Excellence of website design, in terms of visual appearance, navigability and interactivity.
    * A demonstrable impact of the use of web technology on the business, internally and externally.
    * The innovative use of Internet technology to improve business performance or boost competitiveness within an existing business, or to start a new enterprise.

Jury
A selected professional Jury’s committee will meet by April 15th 2010 to select the projects papers/submissions that will be evaluated, shortlisted and select the winners.

Selection process
The Jury will select 15 (fifteen) among all submitted works that will be displayed and exhibited at ADAM’s Creative GIGs Exhibition Arena at KBS Building in Putrajaya in conjunction with Hari Belia Negara on the 14th, 15th and 16th May 2010.

Deadlines
Project Submission /Selection
The contest and the enclosed information sheets shall be uploaded on the website by the midnight of April 15th 2010.
The projects shall be submitted as follows:

    * In digital format only, other formats will be accepted
    * All documents shall be gathered in just one PDF file
    * The PDF file submitted shall be named after the group leader
    * Any video shall be in QuickTime format
    * The submitted file shall not be bigger than 8 MB.

    * Project description and purposes
    * Project rendering, illustrations, photo images
    * Signed disclaimer (downloadable from the website)
    * Materials’ technical details and statements
    * Final rendering / photographs for communication and press office purposes (300 dpi)

Rights and Copyrights
Use of the winning project and possible special acknowledgements.
1B1M Creative GIGs & ADAM is free to use for communication purposes all images of the winning project, as well as all projects receiving special acknowledgements, with the only obligation of quoting their authors. ADAM will have the right to send the projects' images to the main international and local magazines from the sub-sector, in order for them to be published.

Production rights
The participants in the competition, even if awarded the prize, will retain the property and the exploitation rights of their works.

Acceptance of terms and conditions
Participants in the competition shall fully accept the terms and conditions contained in this call for entries. Participants in the competition authorize the treatment of their personal data in compliance with the current Malaysian Data Protection Law. The organization responsible for the competition and treatment of personal data is ADAM, Art & Design Alliance Malaysia under the supervision from Axis Worldwide Incorporated Sdn Bhd.

Key Dates
The 7 Bintang Awards are open for entries from Sunday, 28th February 2010 until 5pm on Thursday, 15 April 2010.

A shortlist of the 3 top entries for each category will be decided by Monday, 19 April. Shortlisted individuals, collectives or companies will be invited to the announcement ceremony on the 15th May 2010 in conjunction with Hari Belia Negara which to be held at PICC / Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

The shortlisted “Best Top Fifteen” Contenders will be announced in our official website, www.adam.org.my and the local newspapers on 15 & 16 May 2010 respectively.

The Awards will be presented at a gala dinner during the celebration of Hari Belia Negara 2010.

The winning individuals, collectives or companies from each of the sub-awards will be exhibited for the public viewing at ADAM’s Creative GIGs Exhibition Arena at KBS Building in Putrajaya on 14, 15 & 16 May 2010.
